1979: "A Car You Will Either Love or Hate -- At First Sight"

Bob Mayer gets behind the wheel of the 1980 Cadillac Seville, but not before remarking on the car's "dramatic styling changes" in this 1979 story.

120 pounds lighter than the 1979 model, 1980's Seville featured a dramatic rear end "reminiscent of an old Rolls-Royce." GM's evocation of one of the great high-end classic cars didn't extend to the interior of the vehicle, where plastic parts weren't fitted well and loose vents on the digital air conditioner directed cold air toward the headliner. In addition, a "mushy gear shift" could easily slide into the wrong forward gear.

The new Seville's paint job was excellent and the car handled well, but a squeaky suspension, interior rattles and a raft of malfunctioning accessories (No key buzzer? Ourageous!) were disappointing in a twenty-thousand-dollar luxury car.
