With its fifth generation Explorer Ford has taken the proverbial left turn. Goodbye body-on-frame architecture, hello car-like unibody. Ford stills bills the Explorer as an SUV but in many ways it's become something of a crossover, trading ruggedness for efficiency and comfort.
