2004 Chrysler Pacifica Review

The early 2000’s were a time of rapid change and growth. 9/11 forced us to change our policies while the play station 2 changed the way we played video games. Chrysler was eager to join the change, and what better way to do that than create something kinda-sort-of-new-but-also-not-that-new. Chrysler came together with Mercedes to create this behemoth of a vehicle named the Pacifica. For all intensive purposes, this car is a good car. It’s comfortable, has an acceptable amount of power, and hasn’t exploded in it’s 13 years of existence. With no help from the manufacturer that is. Like a child being cut off from using Mommy and Daddy’s credit card, the Pacifica was exiled from Chrysler. When reports later came out of faulty engine cradles literally dropping engines out of the car, Chrysler did almost nothing. While a small recall was issued recalling Pacificas made within 4 months of each other and sold in the northern midwest, thats no better than apologizing to people only if snot came out their nose when they cried. The owners then resorted to the American way: a law suit. While it had many small victories, the law suit didn’t change much because it never gained traction. There are two reasons the lawsuit was so small: 1. Not enough people knew the problem. How many people regularly inspect their engine cradle? If it weren’t for the guys at Firestone, my family and I wouldn’t have known. 2. There isn’t a huge user base left. The Pacifica doesn’t have a cult following, meaning no one is driven to fix every problem with the car. Whether you like it or not, odds are the first generation Pacificas will be off the road within the next ten to fifteen years.
