I just got word from Comp Turbo (the turbo vendor) that my turbo ingested a ton of metal and the hot side is trashed. They gave me a huge discount but its still going to cost $500 shipped to get it fixed. I just cant win.
I should have a much better idea about the long block one week from today. It may take a while beyond that to find out exactly how much it will cost but I am expecting $5000.

Well, I found the issue (at home), the bore in cly 1 is cracked! I had an idea to get a very small but extremely bright light into the spark plug. I can clearly see the crack which I estimate to be about 2" long. This horrible picture shows little more than how terrible my camera and camera skills are but you get the idea.
F! I think I am going to go have a beer...

Well, tomorrows the day. I have been driving around with the motor on the back of my escape for three days and I can't wait to get it out. I will post up some picts and into no later than Sat night.

No words needed, these picts say it all. Even with lots of vendor help I am still looking at over $7000 to put this all back together. F!
So the story is that Element saw what they needed to see. The issue wasn't their fault, it was a block failure. They also determined that the entire long block is totally destroyed. The only things that made it out alive are the cams, valve springs and the buckets. After that great news I headed home to deal with the rest of the mess. I just just got the pistons out about five minutes ago and got this one scrubbed up a bit. Its by far the most expensive paperweight I have ever owned.
Yeah, the theory is that one crack formed which allowed coolant into the jug. On the next compression stroke the motor hydro-locked and blew the other side out. There's a massive piece of the liner thats totally missing. Its that piece that took out other head, pistons and turbo.
That is a 17mm socket for size comparison. My turbo ingested that piece of metal (guess how well that worked out).
So no matter how bad my motor is, at least this didnt happen to me:
Nice!
