Lots of discussion about the PDK these days. We will run our PDK in sport plus mode without PSM but it will take some work to get there. We're pretty sure it's already been done but by race teams that want to keep it secret. We have a plan ...

Hi rackhenry,

There is enough evidence to convince me that the PDK is both a performance advantage on track and a reliable transmission. The down side from my point of view is they're heavy and they can't be tuned ... yet, however in sport mode they are very capable. For my situation I'm trying to build the fastest car possible given a simple Weight/HP formula. Driving fun, looks, etc. are not being considered. You have to make your own decisions about driving a race car with an automatic trans.

As far as cost goes mine was more than a stock manual trans, less than half of a dog box and far less than a cup sequential. I don't know about maintenance yet. The only precaution that I've been warned about is making sure it's cooled sufficiently. The water system is common with the engine.

Sounds like a Cayman S with Sport Chrono is in your future. I thought about a true sequential but the one I was looking at would have been $25K. I think I'll wait! There's plenty of fun to be had tuning the chassis, ABS and TC, aero, etc.

We didn't weigh it but my wrench estimated 40+ lbs over the stock manual box.

I wasn't there to lift it but it's definitely heavy. I can tell you that the 2014 PDK is narrower than the earlier ones. We had to modify the mounting brackets.
