Key Hole Cover - Trunk Only
Compliments of mrarer @ forum.miata.net

I've read a lot of the threads on key hole covers, and while it wasn't a mod that I was planning to make, I thought of a product that works nicely for the trunk key hole (too big for the door) that I wanted to share with those of you who like this mod.
I went ahead a made the mod to show you what it looks like on the car. (But I'm still working on the finish ... needs more clear coat.)
Used a "furniture glider" as the cover. It has a nail in it that fits into the key hole, but more importantly, a black plastic base that fits perfectly and snuggly into the actual key hole. The metal outer circle is a close (but a bit smaller) approximation to the recessed area around the key hole. It fits pretty snuggly, and is actually hard enough to pull out that I'm thinking it won't just fall out like others have complained about in prior posts.
There is no fabrication required other than painting. Primer, a few coats of paint and clear coat. An easy DIY.
Total cost: Under $3 for the glides, plus the cost of the paint if you don't already have it.
Hepcatz makes a great point regarding my suggested mod. Let's not be doing mods that could damage other's cars (or worse). Nice catch Hepcatz!
While this mod fits "snuggly" on mine car, it might not you yours. I'm going to make another version "without the nail" to see how snug the thing fits on it's own. I'll post followups to what I find.
