Start by removing the the shifter base plate from the dashboard, by pulling straight back
Disconnect the connectors for gear selector illumination
And the selector buttons
Pull the base plate up past the shift knob, exposing the two screws at the front of the knob. Remove the two screws, and pull the the knob off the shaft.
Remove the knob from the shift boot, by pushing out on the two retention tabs on the shift boot collar
Pull the backlight off of the base plate
Carefully pry the shift boot base plate adapter off of the base plate one side at a time
Remove the collar, which is attached to the boot with adhesive
Remove the base plate adapter which is also attached with adhesive
The shift boot is now completely disassembled
To reassemble start by gluing the new shift boot to the base plate adapter
Glue the collar to the new shift boot
Reattach the base plate adapter to the base plate
Reattach the backlight, and insert the shift knob through the collar, far enough to snap in the retention tabs
With the shift boot pulled up over the shift knob, slide the assembly over the shifter shaft, and secure with the two screws
Reconnect the two electrical connections, reinsert the base plate into the dashboard opening and you're finished
