hi all, today me and my dad set about rebuilding my engine...
first we bolted in the crank shaft using new main bearings
then we rebuilt the pistons with 998 +40 thou heads and new big end bearings and piston rings
my old pistons and some other bits and pieces for the engine and gearbox (my old pistons are solid standard units and will be for sale with rest of my stuff that i don't need at the end of the project)
next we put the cam shaft, timing mechanism + cover and water pump into/onto the block
we are replacing all the old seals with new ones
then we turned our attention to the gearbox/sump
we didn't bother stripping the gear box/sump or differential as they were great when we drove back, there was no crunching and there was a smooth shift between all the gears gears. we just cleaned and painted the unit as a whole.
then we mated the block and gearbox and fitted the bell housing, clutch/fly wheel and cover
that's all we had time to do today...check out the shiny pistons in their new home
we are going to build-up the head on boxing day and bolt it to the block and fit the last few bits (oil filter housing, distributor drive and lift pump) on Tuesday.
hope you are all enjoying my build so far, things went pretty smooth with the rebuild of the engine...when we stripped it apart a few weeks ago, i almost broke my finger trying to get the clutch plate off
more updates next week, until then MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERY ONE
comments always welcome
Wow this is amazing!
