Christmas came early....again. I got my new Frenched license plate kit in the mail today. Here are some pics. Purist are going to be upset, but hear me out. The back end of the 1800 has always been unique. If you take a look at the X1 (the prototype for P1800) you'll see a better looking back end in my humble opinion. Here's why it's better. They didn't have the giant chrome bar abave the plate for the lights. I still think the chrome around the plate is too much, so we won't add it. Also, the plate will be placed lower on the back end so the bottom of the plate is closer to the bumper. Here are some pics.
Here's the kit I bought.
Another shot of the tin in action.

It was a great 3-day weekend and I got some things done on the Volvo. Here's the oh my god moment of the weekend. As you know I have a 1971 1800e. I ran down to the local NAPA and bought a window crank removal tool and started pushing and pulling on what I thought was the clip. You can spend hours and hours trashing your door panel, pulling, scratching and ripping the leather right off the door panel. Fortunately my panel is getting replaced.
Here's the right way to take you window crank off the door without any damage. It took me 3 minutes for both cranks. No door removal tools or rags needed.
Step 1. Push the black ring around the door crank handle in towards the door about a 1/16 or 1/8 of an inch. Don't put lots of pressure on the door when it is fully opened or you might stress the door and or hinge.
Step 2. Put the handle of the window crank at 12 o'clock.
Step 3. As you push the clip in push the window crank up.
Step 4. Laugh because the crank made a pop sound and fell in your hand.
Now I can...Remove the mirror, door panel, smoke window, chrome trim, door handle, hinges and everything else I needed to remove.
