In this video I use a vacuum/boost leak tester that I previously made out of PVC to find a leak in my Jettas vacuum system. Building the PVC tester is very simple, as is using it. Even though this is being done on a Jetta, the concept can be applied to any engine with the right size PVC tester. Please comment if you have any questions!
The main idea is you want to pressurize the system as if the car is building boost. I plugged off the breather lines because I'm not trying to pressurize the engine, I want to find the leak in a vacuum hose. Using a bike pump you can connect it to the schrader valve and pump some air into the system. In stock form, the VW boosts a maximum of 10lbs, so you don't need much to expose any leaks in the system. Once you start pressurizing the system, keep an ear out for a hissing sound so you can identify the location of the leak.
Hope this helps!
