Swaybar Bushing Dustboots for 2005 WRX
Compliments of JDwhiteWRX @ www.nasioc.com
Hey guys,
Being a bit lazy I really hate getting under the car and having to re-grease those swaybar bushings all the time but I do like to play in the dirt. So what I have come up with here is a basic DIY boot using an old mountainbike tube which will cover your swaybar bushings and keep the dust, mud, water etc. out and hopefully keep the grease in.
Whats Required:
14mm and 12mm socket
14mm ring spanner
Sharp cutting knife
IRC 26x2.25-3" DH mountainbike tube or similar like Maxxis etc.
Swaybar bushing grease, I use Castrol LMM
So here is my rear passenger side swaybar bushing and my DIY anti swaybar walk device (hose & hose clamp).
Step 1. remove the two bolts (12mm) holding the U-bracket on and remove U-bracket.
U-bracket removed.
Step 2. remove nut joining the swaybar to the endlink
Step3. Grab your mountainbike tube and cut a piece 140mm.
The tube I use is whats called a Downhill (DH) Mountainbike tube as these are a bigger diameter than a standard bike tube and it needs to fit over the bushing. The DH tubes are a little thicker too so it will be more durable. I am using an IRC 26x2.25-3" DH mountainbike tube. Notice I have plenty of grease in the bushing.
Step 4. At this point you should re-grease your swaybar bushings as once the boot is on you won't be able to. Now slide the DH tube over the swaybar and bring it around over the bushing.
Step 5. once the DH tube is in place you can replace the U-bracket making sure the arrow is facing the front of the car. Getting that rear bolt in is not easy but it will go, just be carefull not to cross-thread it.
Step 6. now grab some cable ties and tie off the ends nice and tight so the system is sealed.
Nice detail
