So FINALLY I got a day to myself and worked on the trunk all day. All day yesterday I measured everything and made a cut sheet and 2D model on paper. Before I went out with the GF i drew the cut lines and started working after church this morning. Took me about 4 hours to build but I literally spent WEEKS contemplating on what the final setup was gonna be like and i finally got it.
Basically the layout is like this:
Started with 3 sheets of 1/2" Oak wood. Really lightweight and its strong! Whole thing only weights 10 lbs!
Decided to make 2 separate pieces to to put in the trunk for 2 reasons. 1- It is 38 1/2" wide which wont fit in the trunk straight. 2- Easier to install and uninstall if ever needed.
I cut (4) 2" x 19 1/4" pieces. (Half on 38 1/2) for the rear panels
I cut (4) 2" x 24" pieces. (That's the measurement from the back of my sub box to my seat hinges). Those were used for the side panels along the carpets on the side.
Then cut (2) 1" x 19 1/4 pieces for the front panels, then used a few spare pieces to make "holes" so wires can run under the wood. I also cut them on the sides (Visible in pics)
So basically it sits 1 1/2 tall because on top of those base pieces sits 2 separate sheets of wood so I can bolt the sub box to it and give it a cleaner look from the inside.
So I started cutting and gathering what I needed and it started! And yes that is snow....with wood shavings
What you see here is the mock up before gluing and screwing (Lol).
Not much else besides that to it, just using clamps, wood glue, and right sized screws for the job.
I want to paint it but idk what color yet and how good it will look. Probably rhino line it Black...
And as you can see, it's plenty strong enough for the subs and box. I am only 150 lbs the box is about 100.
Test fit went good but not showing it just yet. I have a few more things going on Tuesday. and my wheels will be on this week too
Have a few more goodies on the exterior on my to do list and hopefully will be done the week of the 16th. Big car show on the 28th!!!
After these next few weeks i'll have enough to get my timing belt and water pump done and get my tune
Then after all that i'm getting a full vinyl wrap! Not sure on color,...Either polestar blue, red chrome, or blue chrome...
Anyways, enjoy!
