Good idea :P haha.
Yeah the side lights are just the 'normal' bulbs, 501. Remember to buy canbus compatible ones though. There's a good thread on here about LED conversions that I had read but didn't see the part saying the side lights are exposed to too much heat from the high-beams, so they recommend you buy a certain type of LED that is heat-resistant. At first, I thought this would just be a possibility, but I'm on my second set of LED's now and some of the LED's on each bulb are flickering (seems to be the ones that are closest to the high-beams). I'm gonna check that thread out now soon and order a set of the LED bulbs that are more tolerable to the heat, and see how that goes
For my HID conversion I'm just going to buy a conversion kit on eBay first to see how long it lasts. If it doesn't last long or becomes problematic, I might consider buying the bi-xenon headlamps that come as an optional extra from the factory, but they're VERY expensive
What are the E46 Projectors? sounds like BMW talk lol. That sounds like something that would suit me though, as it wouldn't require any modding keep me posted on how you get on with it
P.S - there is a lot of cursing involved when swapping the side lights if you are doing it by hand. The space to get the bulb out from is tiny and doesn't allow you much room to move your hand around, but you actually need room to move in order to get enough force on the bulb to yank it out, so it gets a bit frustrating if you have 'long nose pliers', it would be straight-forward enough, but I don't have any and it's stressful haha.
