Update:
Block is assembled, oil pump in place, cam is in, but I'm waiting on the cam retainer plate thanger from VP Autoparts. This has been the hardest part to get, but mine is too worn to use. I think I have everything else to finish building the engine at this time.
Head was rebuilt by my machine shop a few months ago and is on standby. No fancy porting, heavier springs, or anything crazy on that. Just a nice valve job, hardened seats, and new seals. They also turned an old flywheel I had, so that's ready to go on.
In the meantime, put a brand new petrol tank in and ran a new fuel line all the way to the rebuilt B16B fuel pump. I used 1/4" Aeroquip push-lock hose and some AN fittings from Earl's to hook it up. Fuel filter has been spotless through two tanks of fuel and it runs really well right now. Almost a shame to pull the B16B....almost.

UPDATE: Long overdue!!
Finally got to the point (and got the assistance I needed) to swap the engines.
B16B out.
B18/20 Frankenengine in.
Went pretty smoothly, though you really do have to angle these bad boys to get them in and out. It can be a bit disconcerting with the engine hanging over the unobtanium front clip on these cars.
Problem I have now is that the motor mounts are not lining up at all though. I took the ones off of the B16B, and just ordered new rubber. But it looks like someone welded the motor mount area on the subframe. There are no adjustments possible, even from underneath (as I understand the 544 subframe had an adjustable area of some kind). I am 1/2" to wide (on each side) from each motormount entering the sub-frame. I am considering opening the oblong holes on the subframe a bit more (not desired) or trying offset motormount rubber from a 240 series. The brackets I have now are the really narrow ones. You will also notice a pair of wider P1800 brackets on the old engine for now. Those definitely won't work either.
Any ideas?
Sheezus Tom, you just saved me a crap load of diagnostic time if I went to start it. I would have checked the firing order when I wired in the Hot Spark ignition thingy, but I appreciate that feedback.
Cameron, are you referring to the motor mount on the B16B in the photo? If so, that's for a P1800. I had those lying around and I needed something to put on the old engine to keep it off it's oil pan. I had no intention of using those.
The brackets on the new engine (on the dolly), are the narrower B16 brackets that came off of the old engine. They also seem to be the same as the B18 PV544 brackets (I've seen photos from jedd's build). I can't imagine brackets looking that alike but being a half-inch off or so in either direction. I'll post another pick of the brackets tomorrow. I'm thinking of ordering these from FCP just to see if they work. (If only I kept the spent motor mounts from my 245 build...)
