It will be closed up. I will most likely take care of that when I bring the car home. I also need to seal up the area on the rear seat pans where I had originally relocated the upper 4 link bars. I will need to redo some of the driveshaft tunnel where the shifter is. I switched from a cable operated shifter to a direct linkage. I will need a bit more space for that to work properly.

The exhaust is done. It turned out great but I was not able to have the resonators next to the fuel tank. There just wasn’t space.

We are waiting for the radiator core to arrive. That is the last big item to finish up before coming home and doing some work here.

Thanks Joel.

The radiator core finally came in yesterday. With a little luck it should be heading out of the chassis shop next week. After that it will head home to re-plumb the brake and fuel system, close up some holes in the body, redo the emergency brake cables, clearance the engine a bit more around the firewall and mount the heater core. I also need to mount the fire suppression system, change where I will mount the ECU, trans controller and fuse block.

Lots of little things but they all need to be done before going in for paint. There is just so much to do in building a car. The complexity of this project just keeps growing. By changing the suspension I threw this project back by 2 years. It should be fantastic when completed but is testing my commitment at this point. Bringing it home should be good to get me excited again.

Progress......

The story continues... Earlier today I made a deal on a Bosch M4 ABS setup. It is the same setup used by professional race teams. It is adjustable and totally customizable. It will take a little more effort and money to make the modification, but should be well worth it. The car will have traction control and anti-lock brakes. It will be fast, handle like no other and stop on a dime with a nickel in change.

I can tell you that I did not pay retail for the ABS setup. I picked it up off a friend who purchased it earlier this year but then had a opportunity to buy a used kit from a Porsche race team. He sold it to me at a good discount but it was still an investment I had to think hard about.

The Bosch setup is truly amazing. Many factory race teams will convert to and get rid of the factory designed setups. It has the ability to adjust the sensitivity and settings on the fly. I was talking to the guy who has been helping with the suspension and he told me about another client that turns the dial in to adjust on every lap of certain race courses. He likes the setting for one particular high speed corner one way and then back to the standard settings for the rest of the track. I can’t see doing that but it gives a good example of what is possible with the system. The hardest part is figuring out how to add wheel speed sensors to the solid rear axle. I got a plan and now just need to do it.

My wife is awesome. I take care of all the finances of the household. As long as it doesn’t compromise our savings, investing and quality of life she doesn’t say anything. She is at the point where she doesn’t ask or really want to know the answer. I am not sure if that is good or bad.

I am building the car in a way that does not cut any corners (in my opinion). I don’t want to look back and wish I would have done something different. It will take longer to do that but the end result should be fantastic and truly one of a kind.
