okay well i think my piston slap issues are over, but i have a definite ticking sound coming from my drivers side head, it happens at all rpm and seems to have got louder. Could this be a loose valve bucket?? I dont want to have to pull the motor again but if i have to i will and I am still burning a lot of oil  I only have 60 miles on the engine right now, any idea when i should see an improvement?

its coming from the drivers head for sure and seems to be getting louder. Hmm, maybe an exhaust leak??

Thanks, the piston slap is basically gone now but this tick is driving me crazy, I am thinking il pull the cam cover and take a look. If its just a loose valve bucket hopefully its a cheap and quick fix.

So I had a chat with a friend who is a 15 yr subaru mechanic, he said he is confident it is an incorrectly shimmed valve bucket. The symptoms all point towards it so il be pulling the cam cover off in the next few days and checking the clearances.

Well in other news I pick up my new tires today, going down from a 265 to a 215 on an 18 x 9.5 rim. Should give me the stretch I need to lower the car a bit more but more importantly soften my suspension! 

Obrien your car is louder than mine for overall engine noise but its hard to tell from the video if it is making the same ticking sound... gorgeous car though!

I will probably check it in the car but if it requires changing il pull the motor. It doesnt take too long and would make timing it up etc much easier
