Diablo Dilemma

I was floored when he said it, myself. After all, a TT V8 project like this, would have been awesome publicity for NRE.

This project has made the unlikeliest of turnarounds.

If I can make the power and reliability of an NRE engine, without completely destroying the orriginality of the car, then I'm in.

This, mind you, is still being determined by NRE. It's not a definate. We'll have a definate answer soon.

I feel the same, but besides hp, my ultimate goal is reliability. You can supposedly fill an NRE car with pump gas, drive from Cali to NYC. Change the oil, and drive back to Cali.

Every single other person I've talked to, tells me these 6.0 V12 engines are fragile and break easily when boosted. Some of the people I've talked to, really know these cars well. What I'm dying to find out, is how is NRE going to make the block strong, without re-casting it? I'm confused.

He's going to start taking the car apart next week. Hopefully, I'll have some more info about it soon.

Underground Racing didn't want to touch the car. They said they had nothing available for the Diablo 6.0 VT

The crank and the rest of the internals will have to go bye bye. They will surely fail if I'm going to make massive power. I always thought the block itself was also a weak point, but not according to NRE.

Funny you should mention that, because (early on in the thread) the Falconer V12 engine was a consideration. They make an air-cooled V12 for use in aircraft.

I contacted Falconer about the Diablo dilemma, and they never got back to me. Seems (that just like Undrgrnd Racing) they didn't want to touch this car either.

It certainly would if I were going for 200 more hp over stock. The Lamborghini factory made a few twin turbo (unofficial production) units of the previous model Diablo. This is an interesting little read here http://www.lambocars.com/archive/diablo/vttt.htm on my car's predecessor.

It seems the limiting factor with the previous car, was not strength of the engine parts, but rather the Viscous Coupling (essentially a Volkswagen AWD system). My car (the second generation Diablo) also has a "Viscous Traction System", not unlike an Audi R8.

I'm sure that at a reasonable power level (700hp), it would be easier to keep the AWD with the orriginal V12. However, since the Hp #'s I'm chasing are double that figure, it's going to be quite a challange to keep the AWD with either engine. Being a freak is never easy.

Keeping the AWD is one of the main goals, though. Keeping the car reliable is also one of the main goals.

The level of power I'm after could certainly be accomplished with a 2JZ. However, it won't deliver the type of hp/torque curves I'm after. I want instant, massive power, at any rpm. I have quite a bit of first hand experience with engines like the 2JZ and RB26, and when you start getting into the 800, 1000, 1200, 1400 hp range, you're looking at serious boost lag (without the NOS or a 2 step system). When you floor it, you have time to say a prayer before the boost actually kicks in and kills you. I want instant death when I floor the throttle. That's what I'm looking for.

Also, those cars can be "somewhat" reliable at that extreme power level, but not nearly as reliable a a stock car, of course. An NRE TTV8 makes that kind of power all day long, and has incredible reliability. Hopefully, they can make something similar out of the V12
