I honestly thought the tapping noise I heard when I started the engine up could have been a broken lifter. I’m pretty sure now that it wasn’t the lifters, but hey - replaced them and now I have no excuse but to paint or replace my worn valve covers too ? Soaked them overnight per suggestion! Many recommended replacing my cam and such. My old lifters weren’t worn, so I didn’t really feel a need to. This was probably not a super necessary move but it’s good for peace of mind to know I’m covering my bases.

A few things I did yesterday. Valve lapping , and then checked the oil pan for any miscellaneous debris. Found some tiny tiny pieces of plastic, no doubt from the broken stem seals I discovered. Cleaned out the pan, and cleaned up the valves. .

Nice work! Thankfully the body looked in decent shape to start with, lots of these are pretty rusty at least around here. Inspiring me to get a Mustang of my own!
