Racecar is just about ready for her 4 days of track time at
SCCA Inc. Time Trials Nationals.
Friday evening we got her front bumper cover off and prepped the front bumper reinforcement bar for the
Ford Performance tow ring.
Saturday started early with a quick trip to meet up with local Mustang guy, Jay Penley, who let me check out his gorgeous GT350 and gave me a set of Hawk+ racing brake pads. Jay used to have an s197 Boss 302 before his GT350 and has been kind enough to share his old track parts with me, including one of my GT500 wheel sets.
As we headed home after meeting with Jay, friends Jennifer and David were on their way with some goodies for Racecar and to meet us for lunch. Jennifer designed and cut all of Racecar's vinyl graphics for the Hillclimb last month. This Time Trials event, I have different class and car numbers, so my good friend did her thing and now I have the right vinyls and some new graphics to put on the car!
After lunch, Jennifer and David came and hung out at the She-Shed while we finished up getting Racecar's tow ring installed and bumper cover back on. While I did get to officially install the pretty red tow ring, Kyle did nearly all the work on this modification.
We finished up Saturday afternoon by swapping all of Racecar's brake fluid. We did a full brake fluid swap early March, using OE DOT 3 fluid. I had 2 Road Atlanta tracks days, 1 autocross, and the hillclimb event with the fluid and it looked soo gross coming out. Not to mention a bit of air in the front calipers. Racecar now has
Motul RBF 600 DOT 4. We used a full 2 liters, and need to pick up another .5-1 liter for next week's event.
And, finally after weeks on Jack stands, Racecar is back on the ground! She still needs an alignment after the bumpsteer kit install. We decided to put her Michelin all-seasons on for the around town driving she'll do to get to
Black Mountain Tire Connection Inc., just in case she's really out of alignment, we won't mess up her sweet
Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Connect tires!
Nice to see someone pushing these cars to their limits.
