Well work went better than expected, Managed to finnish a couple of days early so ive been at the mini all day. First i stripped out the interior and ripped out the old fuel pipe. Floors are still perfect, but then its only been six months since it was finished.
New fuel pipe.
Its run through the car next to the tunnel and under the rear seat, up and through the seat back and out next to the fuel pump.
At the front it comes out through the bulkhead and up behind the carb..
I used cuttings of the old flexible pipe to make the final connections to the pump and carb. With the new pipe tested and fuel now getting to the carb I fitted the exhaust system and adjusted the dizzy as it was 180 deg out.
Then turned the key................Nothing, It still wont start. Had a good look about and found the back of the engine was wet??? Yep its petrol... Bloody inlet manifold is not sealing against the head... So I had to strip it all off and take a look.
The inlet port for cylinders 1 & 2 is warped and will never seal against the head!!! How the hell does that happen????
Lucky I have the manifold off the other engine, So fitted that one and had one last check. Fingers crossed I turned the key..............................BROOM........SPLUTTER ....BROOM. It runs.
Tomorrow Im going to bleed the brakes, connect up the new dash and set the timing with the strobe light before adjusting the mixture and idle.
Cant wait to take "Haggis" for a shakedown run. No more than 3000 revs for a while though..
Nice details!
