DIY 4 Inch Cold Air Intake

Hello I'm fairly new to the forums and i have barely owned my 2003 Acura Cl 6 speed for less than a month (first stick car!)
I wanted to do some cheap mods so here is my first mod a
4 inch intake which costs around 30 dollars.
You will need
Home depot (what i used)
4 Inch ABS piping , got the precut was more than enough for about 10.83
4 inch to 3 inch coupler 8.50

and a 90 Degree Elbow 4 inch 9 something or 8 something
For the suction line things
i used a barb tee from my previous car integra

is the first picture you will see the gold thing. was about 3-4 dollars from what i remember
First you will need to remove your stock intake
there are other posts here that show how to remove everything including the resonator from the bottom.
You will take the coupler and put the 3 inch side onto the throttle body opening. You will need to take off the plastic cover off of the top of the engine. You may need to remove the MAP sensor and all the suction lines and the throttle cable lines out of the way.
Don't be scared that it does not fit and there is too much slack.. i learned the hard way.. i bought a 4 inch to 2 inch and i ripped it because it was too small. This 4 inch to 3 inch coupler will fit , as long as you tighten the hell out of it. No issues or leaks or anything like that should look like this
After than you will need to measure the amount of 4 inch pipe you will need to cut (i used a 8.99 angle grinder from harbor freight) to make it all uniform like this
I apologize for not making measurements as i did this under 20 minutes because i was rushing to pick up my brother from school. I can go out and measure upon request.
As you can see i cut the premade pipe into two pieces.
Parts are in order:
Throttle body > 4 to 3 inch coupler > 4 inch pipe > 90 degree elbow> 4 inch pipe > filter
The pipe is just barely enough to fit down into the hole where the resonator was, you may need to force it in or bend some of the metal (i just rammed it in there)
Now you will need a filter that will fit the end of the 4 inch pipe. I'm using a rather large filter, AEM bruteforce that was put on a gmc suburban i used to drive.

What i did is duct tape the filter to the end of the pipe lol. You can do it fancy and get another coupler 4 inch to 3 inch or 2 inch depending on your intake size, and the respective pipe size to tie it all up with hose clamps.
As for the suction hoses, i put the pipe in all plugged up as if i already had it and marked with a marker where to drill holes.
The closest one to the throttle body i just drilled a hole because the suction thing just enters on its own. You can make your own adapter if you like, i just used duct tape to seal it all up.
As for the other suction line, i used that tee barb i mentioned earlier.

And there you have it, a DIY intake for under 40 bucks. I know ebay has short rams for 38 dollars, but i wanted something larger than 2-3 inch piping.

As for any noticeable gains, the butt dyno sure feels like it did.
I have the peace of mind of larger tubing if the stock tubing or aftermarket tubing wasn't big enough.

Ps. I wrapped the Piping with exhaust wrap to minimize heat soak (it gets really hot!) and it looks better now.

That increasing the diamter or chamber size will cause turbulence, but reducing the size just before the throttle bodyopening will help reduce turbulence...

Update, i used an AFE 4.5 inlet dryflow filter that fit like a glove onto the piping size. Though i have a small clearance issue as the piping i had to bend a little bit to fit the filter its a rather wide filter, if you go with your normal conical filter (probably about 5 x 5 something small not wide) made not made for diesel trucks you wont have hood clearance issues as the piping. the hood clearance doesnt bother me as much as it properly closes though there is about 2 mm gap between the headlight gasket thing and the hood

some examples, notice there are some that are oval shaped, those will have fitment issues

please measure the space you have before this installation as i went through 2 filters that did not fit :[

i also added exhaust wrap to cover it up and make it look better
i do not have the part # for the filter as i traded it off of craigslist just my luck
please do not buy an extremely large one or you will have to do extra modifcations to make it fit!
