Me n my wife went to Menards to get some bird seed n suet they have an sale and look what happened to fall into the cart...................

A piece of 2' X 4' 16ga weldable steel.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Hoooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

Now to find some cardboard n start makeing a template

Gonna smooth half the firewall. Here is a start of the template.

Got the template done. Just gotta transfer to the metal n start cutting.
But first, I gotta take a ride and get my jigsaw lol

Wow, first test fit went really well
Alittle triming, test fit again n I think it may be time to clean off some paint and fire up the welder.

Got alittle safety tip......................while welding on the firewall NEVER have rags on the other side of where you are welding!!!

While welding I smelled smoke, took off the helmet and had a nice BBQ going inside the car
I always have 2 extinguishers in the garage so it was no biggie(thank god)
The pic looks worse then it was.

Before anyone panics, everything is ok Just alittle Boo Boo on my part.
Just got alittle mess to clean up tomorrow.

Was almost done welding, but I think I will finish it up tomorrow.

Needless to say...............thats it for today.

Remembered alittle while ago 24 is on tonight at 8pm. That is one show I try not to miss. But I did get some grinding done.
Hopefully more to come tomorrow.

2-3-2009

I think the main firewall patch is ready for paint
I ordered some more Eastwood chassis black paint today, Hopefully have it by friday/saturday and get the firewall done this weekend.

I am going to make a reinforcement plate for where the master cylinder for the hydraulic clutch willl go. That is the red square in the second pic.

Also not sure how I want to attach the rod to the clutch pedal.
Maybe a 5/16 x 24 rod end, or the piece(not sure what it is called)that screws onto the rod then goes on both sides of the clutch pedal???

The piece I use will matter where I place the master.

2-4-2009

Here is my first attempt at making the plate for the clutch master. Alittle off on the height so I will make a new one.

There we go
Much better.

Ready for some grinding.
This made that part of the firewall real strong now. No flex at all

Plus, I got a shipping email form Eastwood. My chassis black paint is on it's way Should be here friday.

Here is the mock up of both masters. I like the Wilwood kit. It comes with a remote resivoir. The kink in the hose will be gone when the top gets put all the way down on the master. Everything fits nice n cozy

Yes I am going with manual brakes to eliminate the booster.

Since the firewall is ready for paint n that should be here tomorrow. I figured I would get some more parts outta the attic. Maybe I'll tale a ride to the speed shop in the morning and get some new bolts for the flywheel n preasure plate. Then get the flywheel, clutch, bellhousing and starter mounted pernanent

The clutch set is a Ram Power Grip # 98760
Steel lightweight flywheel
Lakewood bellhousing
Summit mini starter

Maybe get the starter cleand up and paint the bellhousing tonight, well at least get it primed lol

Got the bellhousing all cleaned up n primed.

2-6-2009

Got the starter all cleaned up, just sprayed some WD40 on a rag n wiped it down. Looks like new
Also got the bellhousing painted.
Now gotta do some parts runnin around.

Grainger had the clevis, but the speed shop is closed for the weekend. No bolts till monday

Waaaaaaaaa Hoooooooooo!!!The fedex truck was just here
I know what I'll be doing after lunch!!!

Well, got it all masked off n ready for some paint, but ran into a small problem

Remember when I had that BBQ in the car last weekend? There was some melted plastic I could not identify when cleaning up the mess.

Well I figured out what that was.....................it was my RESPIRATOR  :whine:

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

First coat

Some pics after 2 coats. I'll get more pics latter after it dries and the gloss calms down then ya can see the nasty runs I got. Thought I had the gun adjusted good but I guess not lol
I played with the gun more and tested on the door and that came out pretty good.

The clevis worked out very nice for the clutch pedal n rod.

Was gonna start sandblasting the pedals n pedal support, then I found this.
The factory hole for the clutch rod. I found it after I took out the groument/bushing. No biggie as I won't be using this hole anyay. I'll just plate both sides.
