Finally got the crossmmember cleaned, blasted and primed. Final paint will be hammered silver. My paint supplier(oldest daughters hubby) came over today and we talked and talked about the subframe, I will have supplies for that in a few days.
My cost $0 (yes he is a great guy)
Heres the crossmember painted hammered silver. Every time I paint this silver I think...............man that looks good lol
Well................ I was getting ahead of my self gettng the subframe ready to paint. I am going to make a plate with two 3/8 nuts welded on the inside for the sway bar mount, got the idea from this thread http://nastyz28.com/forum/showthread.php?t=135414 Prolly dont need this for a stock sway bar but I will be ready for future bar updrade if need be.
Also using solid motor mounts so I need to get the motor n trans in place to make sure where they mount.
I sure do love when a plan comes together

Got the plates made for inside the frame for the sway bar mounts. The right was no big deal, but the left side I forgot about the tubes that are inside the frame to support the steering box mount. For that side I just made two pieces instead of one . The last pic where I put the red mark is where one of those tubes is. I drilled some holes in the frame to weld the bracket in place then grind flat.
Should be nice n strong now.
Ok.............................. now the subframe is ready for paint
Hopefuly get the expoy primer on it tomorrow

Minor setback tonight
I was tapping on one of the frame horns where the slot is for bumper bracket mount that was bent out alittle from a bolt that was pulling thru and 2 of the 3 pieces I welded in yesterday fell out. So much for flux core welding wire. So tomorrow after work I gotta get the gas bottle filled and weld the pieces back in WITH GAS
You can prolly imagine how pissed off I was but, It is a very good thing that this happened now and not latter. I can even imagine those pieces coming off after I had the whole front suspension painted and together!!!
Thats is for today, will try again tomorrow

Today I am back to being a very happy camper
Got the pieces welded back in for the sway bar mount, then got the subframe epoxy primed.
Was trying to figure out a way to be able to flip it and not ding it up so I figured ya can hang small parts to paint so why not big parts too.......right? LOL

After getting the heat working in the garage I figure I might as well do something while I wait for the Eastwood chassi black paint to get here. The steering box was close at hand so I'll start with that. Got it cleaned with the wire wheel, then wiped down with laquer thinner and primed waiting for the hammered silver .
Hopefully get some silver on it tonight.
All ready to install
Amazing Job! Really saved this car from rusting away!
