Okay, its my weekend again... I got a little bit accomplished.

First, I picked up my lower control arms. I had the replacement bushings, and ball joints pressed in. I also asked the shop to hot tank them for me. Well, the arms didn't come back as clean as I had imagined, and it cost me 70.00 to have the work done. I thought that was absurd! But, I guess that's the going rate these days.

After that I used a angle grinder, with a wire wheel attachment, and cleaned up the lower arms a bit. In those hard to reach places, I used a brush, and cleaned them by hand. Next, I washed them with a scotchbrite pad, using common dish soap.

Next, I used the cheapo wal-mart engine degreaser and let that soak in for a bit.

Then I rewashed, rinsed, and let them dry in the sun. I also masked off the bushings, and primed them with metal primer paint. I forgot to snap a photo of that though, but you guys get the picture...

Then, I moved on to the spindles.
First, remove the caliper, if you haven't done so already.

Second, remove the grease cap.

Clean up the spindle grease and remove the cotter pin.

Remove wheel bearing nut, and washer.

Remove disc brake dust shield assembly by removing attaching bolts. Dust shield and bolts will not be reused in assembly.

Remove dust shield. Here is everything taken all apart. Repeat for the other side.

Clean and degrease the spindles. Remove all nicks and burrs on the spindle snout and threads. Remove any of the backing plate gasket which may remain on the spindles. Remove any scale or rust from the gasket area.

Then I wire wheeled everywhere I could reach.

Tomorrow I plan on cleaning up the engine bay even more. Painting the lower control arms, and possibly start the modifications to the spindles to accecpt C5 brakes.
