Okay, so today, I dropped off my axles at the machine shop that Tobin recommended to me. They didn't give me a call back, I suppose I have to wait until Monday to get my axles back, and get my C5 rear brakes on...
Today, I cleaned up the rear-end, and painted it high temp flat black.
I started with this:
I sprayed PB Blaster on the 4 flange bolts. Next, I took off the remaining brake stuff. After that, I took a screwdriver and scraped off the bulk of the grime build up. Then used a wire wheel attachment, on a grinder, and wheeled off everywhere I could reach. I also used a wire brush to get into some of the places the wire wheel couldn't reach. Then, I used some engine degreaser, and removed the rest. After that, I used soapy water and washed down the housing, followed by another round of engine degreaser.
I came up with this. Its still not perfect, but its perfect enough for me!
Next, following the instructions on the primer can (even strokes, 10 or so inches away) I proceeded to primer the housing. Careful, don't get any paint inside the housing.
A trick that I always use, warm up the paint can. It makes it spray better.
Here is the finished rear-end. Sorry for the crappy pic.
I didn't feel like wire wheeling the front spring mounts. So, I just brushed them off by hand. Then, I washed them with soapy water and rinsed them off.
Then, I applied some paint.
I did the same thing for the rear-end/shock mount.
By the time all this was done, I had expected to receive a phone call from the machine shop letting me know that my axles were ready. I didn't, so I decided that I would mount the new springs in the front spring mounts. I have all new hardware from ptfb.
Well, the stuff that I have on the Camaro, seems just fine. But, I planned on replacing it anyway. Then I started looking at the new clips. Call me a weirdo, or whatever, but I really like the design of the old clips much better. I don't see how the new ones could be anywhere near as strong as the old ones. I'm sure either one would be just fine. The replacement ones are tough to get into their respective locations. I would have to slightly modify them, which is no big deal.
I'm going to reuse my old ones. I just don't think there is anything wrong with them.
Also, I received my last package from ProtouringFbody today. It only took 2 monts and 5 days, to receive all my things!

One other thing... I have this thing on my Camaro. I know I read somewhere that it is a 1970 only thing, I think... Anyhow, I was wondering if I needed to use it or not? What exactly is it, and what is it supposed to do? Does performance suffer if I hook it back up?
