Hello all,
While removing the vacuum reservoir, I noticed that there are 2 spacers in each of both front suspension springs. I am not a mechanic and I never saw anything like this before... so a quick 101 lesson would be greatly apreciated here!!

When I look at the exterior resto thread that Steve O (70 Cougar) is carrying, I realize the gap that exist between a pro like him an the amateur that I am and I am truely happy for him to be so talented... but at the same time I keep in mind that my objective is less ambitious as all I want is a good 20 footer to be driven on a daily basis (during summer) while maintaining budget under control.
Here is the vaccum actuator before and after refresh. I made it all black... not sure though if I am not going to redo it Alu after seing what Steve has done... we'll see!
The vaccum reservoir is more of a problem since rust has quite badly eaten the "ears".
- As removed, before sanding.
- Became this after removing the loose rust... yurk!
- Not equipped nor able to do soldering, I attempt to fix with construction metallic corners & epoxy gel... results remain to be seen!
The bottom ear is hardening at this moment and the top one will be glued early next week. I hope this method works as I want to fix this reservoir by myslef and I absolutely wish to avoid getting a new one... it is 43 years old and I want it to stay on that car!!!
Buffing the cured epoxy won't be easy I know, but it is doable.
My wife smiled at me when she saw the assembly earlier tonight...
I guess the fun is going to be with her for the next little while hehe!
Good night Cougar addicts!
