It's been a bit since I updated this thread - everyone knows how busy you can get with work and life, and when you add a kid to the mix time seems to disappear. I ran into an issue that kind of zapped my motivation to put things back together. I had been waiting for all the parts to come in so I could just work away uninterrupted, but was facing some back order issues on coolant parts, and an oil pan that wouldn't fit.

I was able to get the back-ordered parts sorted out. I ordered them in December, and it kept saying 1 week out. One week turned into 2.5 months, and I finally just said cancel the order, and I got them from another place. Hooray, coolant system can go back together!

The oil pan on the other hand... not so lucky. I ordered a Forge baffled oil pan because I was dropping the pan to replace the pick-up tube, and like everything I've done with this car, I figured it was a good time to upgrade! Long story short, the pan didn't fit, and I almost messed up one of the bolt holes on the block trying to install it. The Jetta has 14 bolts that hold the pan to the block, and 3 that hold the pan to the transmission. Neither bolt holes lined up. Below you can see the photos of the smaller vertical bolts, and then the larger horizontal holes not lining up. I had a bit of back and forth and some waiting for a response from customer service, but as of today it seems that I'll be returning the pan and getting a refund. As for now, the old pan is installed, I'm putting oil in the car tonight, and hoping nothing leaks!

Been following your posts, can't believe that pan was off so much, same with the inlet pipe!

It's crazy! Forge even responded and said they've sold the pan for years without issue and that they were 'looking into it'. I can't find anyone on the internet that says they've installed it, or had a problem with it, so I'm wondering if something is off with a batch of them or something? Hoping the inlet pipe is as good as people say it is, otherwise it wasn't worth the trouble.

Love a fast wagon. I’ve driven a modded 1.8t so I’m sure that thing scoots! Sounds like a great daily.

Thank you! It has been a great daily. Really fun to drive, and extremely reliable despite the reputation of mk4s. I'm not really sure what my plan is for it going forward now that it's not a daily, but it'll be fun either way!
