GTI exhaust on a TDI

Finally got around to doing this.

I got my muffler (axle back) from UnitedGTI. and I got the lower rear insert from my local dealer. After receiving it, I realized the tow hook cover was a separate piece.

What you will need:

GTI muffler - (unsure on part number but it should be 5K6253609J)

GTI rear bumper insert 5K6807521H9B9

Tow hook cover - 5K6807441C9B9

Two extra screws - N90974701 (2 of them)

First we started by removing the rear bumper insert, on the Golf bumper, there are two Torx screws at the bottom, and the rest is all clipped in:

Disconnect the stock muffler from the rubber hangers:

After measuring the pipe and making sure it's the right length, then take your sawzall and cut the stock muffler pipe. The GTI pipe was slightly bigger and it slipped right over the Golf pipe tightly which helped:

Install the GTI rear bumper insert, it uses the same clips and same two center Torx screws, and also an extra Torx screw at each end of the insert too (these srews are a little different shape than the two center ones). Now get the GTI muffler ready, make sure everything is lined up and level, and weld it on:

Drive home with a big grin on your face, which gets even bigger when not one but two MK6 GTIs pass you and almost break their neck (or maybe it was the LED tails lol):

Then wash the car and go for a photoshoot:

BTW, I had a muffler shop install the muffler for me (had used them before) it took him 18 minutes and it was dirt cheap !
