Couple of updates: Block and head are going to the machine shop this week. I have everything on the "need to buy" list except for the gasket.

Question for the M Block gurus: What is that 2 stud flange just below the oil filter flange for? I know the 7M doesn't use it that's why its blocked off but, correct me if I'm wrong, isn't that oil pressure from the pump behind there? Has anyone used that for anything else? Oil cooler? Dry sump? Just curious
