so the motor is in, had a mini disaster though, the rear engine lifting bracket broke and the engine fell onto the front bumper taking a big chunk out of it. Ugh... fml, start up today

Okay so, the engine is installed and no leaks. We ended up pulling the engine again and installing a new rear main seal.

The engine is running, makes good oil pressure etc but wow is it noisy. Im not familiar with built subaru engines but the piston slap is intense. I am almost worried it is rod knock but the oil checks out clean and the car drives totally fine. The clacking only happens at low rpm and goes away when driving. Maybe I am being super paranoid but who knows at this stage. I think if it were this noisy after driving 40 kms tonight and the oil being clean still it must be slap (i hope)!

A few little problems like a creaking exhaust bracket are appearing but really it seems like trivial stuff... fingers crossed the break in goes okay and it lives a happy long life

ugh, thats really worrying to hear, the noise does not go away. At higher rpm it cannot be heard but at idlle and pulling away it is clearly there.

I think if this one blows il be out of the subaru game and sell the car. I truly cannot take this stress anymore

I think all I can do is just drive the car and see what happens. I mean maybe it is just noisy, maybe it will let go today, there really is no true way to tell.

Im going to head out and fix my squeaky exhaust and then take her for a few more miles.

Fingers crossed!

After chatting with Junior today and 150 kms with no issues it must just be slap. The engine just sounds very different to what I am used to and thats not a bad thing just scary at first. It does seem to have quietened down a bit.

Yeah I think honestly thats it, after 150 kms it probably would have died by now. I guess il know if I am being paranoid quite soon because you will be tuning it next month!
