If you find the brake light or blinker is out on a second gen Mercury Mariner, the replacement is simple! I'll outline the steps below, but check out the video for a great how-to.
The bulb is a combination blinker/brake light, and even though mine was tuning on, it wasn't illuminating brighter when the brake was applied or blinker turned on.
When you open the hatch, you'll see two phillips head screws. Remove those, and pull the brake light straight out of the back of the car. At this point, unscrew the bulb sockets and put the light aside. Remove the bulb, ensure the new one you have matches the one coming out of the car, and put the new bulb in. Screw the sockets back in, re-attach the light, and put the screws back in.
