With the gearbox on its way I can start to think about our next visit to the UK and Europe. Looking through our favourite guide book, John Herman's "Motorcycle Journeys through the Alps" I came across this most interesting page..............
While written for Motorcyclists, driving the in Rapier I am sure that our enjoyment is very similar

While not in Italy this photograph, that Helen took while we were on our 2009 trip, shows exactly the sort of roads we really love driving on.
One thing that is certain is that you never get bored.

We will be there in the Lagonda Rapier on June 2nd.  Where will you be and what will you be doing?   For those whose French is not good, Chanteloup Les Vigne is not  about "singing wolves in a vineyard" but it is the worlds oldest competitive "Hill-climb" for motor cars and motorcycles. The event is run on the public road, along the original route, starting outside the village church, it follows the road through the village and up the hill. Being in France, there are one or two very good Lunches and Dinners for the participants!
The Web-site has heaps of historical photographs of cars dating from the late 1890s.

As you have found it is not very far from Paris although it was very different 100 years ago, but still close enough for competitors to come from the city. We have approached it from the opposite direction previously i.e. 2009 . Even being hi-jacked by a wedding photographer en route. No oil spots on the brides dress either.
I often wonder what the happy couple think or even if they look at their wedding photographs and wonder??

I dout if they even realised how far the car had travelled just to make their photographs perfect.

How much easier is it for USA based "enthusiasts" to ship their cars to the UK & France and they do not even have to worry about driving on the other side of the road.
In all our trips apart from the FIVA World Rally in 1996, I have yet to see an USA Registered car "on the road" in the UK or France/Europe.
