After another rather disjointed day I am glad to say that the ENV 75 Total Rebuild is nearing the end. All that remains now is fitting the front cover and the final drive flange etc then hopefully the final adjustments! The very last thing on the list of things still be done will be re-installing it in the car and testing it under load. I suspect that there will still be some further adjustment to be done even then. I hope to be able to put some miles into the new linings so that I will not be still doing "adjustments" with the car in France.. At least I should not have any problem with our good friends at Australian Border Force.
You have my permision to laugh very loudly at anyone who tells you that they can "over-haul" an ENV 75 Preselect gearbox in a " day or two".
Change the oil and polish the little Brass Plate on the lid. Perhaps

I am about to start the next chapter in the saga of my life with an ENV 75 Preselector Gearbox. Starting from the bottom and working up.
The thing that anoys me most is that all this pain and effort is totally brought about by a Government Regulation banning the use of asbestos. The gearbox was working well and had plenty of life left in the existing Friction Linings. Some things are better left alone but it is all too late now. If I am ever to drive the car again, be it here in Australia or in England & France, the first thing I have to do is to put together a working gearbox with Asbestos Free friction linings. Even before that, I have to clear all this rubbish of my work table.
If I was not crazy before, I feel that I am now!
Next day and I am back in the progress mode. I know that it is hard to see any difference, you will just have to trust me. Not only have I changed the outer "case" but the 'bus bar too. One minor change to the outer case is a "level plug" to check that the oil was /is up to the required level. This is in addition to the dip-stick incorporated in the filler plug.
The level plug can only be reached from under the car while the dip stick is accessed through an "inspection hole" in the floor.
Great detail!
